The April 2021 issue of the newsletter encapsulates our research and policy outreach activities during the month of March 2021.

The book Revitalizing Indian Agriculture and Boosting Farmer Incomes, edited by Ashok Gulati, Ranjana Roy, Shweta Saini was published in March and has been receiving a great deal of attention.

The Virtual Conference on Act East Policy: Enhancing Trade Infrastructure and Connectivity in the North Eastern Region, was organized on 20th March. The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of State (IC), Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India. On 24th March, the Webinar on “Trade Policy and Reforms for Trade Facilitation: An Unfinished Agenda” was organized by ICRIER and on 26th March, we hosted a Webinar on “Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) to India”.

We are sad to bid farewell to Dr. Rajat Kathuria who is moving on after an eight and half year stint as Director and Chief Executive of ICRIER. He will continue to be with us as a Visiting Professor. World Bank economist Dr. Deepak Mishra has been appointed as the next Director and Chief Executive. He is currently a Practice Manager in the World Bank's macroeconomics, trade and investment global practice responsible for East Asia and Pacific region. He has also served as the World Bank's country economist for India from 2001-04, working closely with the central government and several state governments including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Punjab.

ICRIER staff continue to publish extensively, including book chapters, journal articles and analytical op-eds on a variety of relevant topics such as agriculture, macroeconomic policy, minimum wage, climate change and solar tariffs, carbon emissions, fiscal policy, international trade, among others.
