In the 2011 Global Go-To Think Tanks Report, ICRIER’s rank has improved to 15th position among top 30 Asian Think Tanks in 2011 from 23rd position in 2010. ICRIER is also ranked 25th in the top 30 international economic policy think tanks. In this ranking ICRIER is the only Indian institution.
The Global Go-To Think Tank Report is annually produced by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program of the International Relations Program, University of Pennsylvania. The 2011 report was launched on 18 January 2012 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Given hereunder is a snapshot of the range of experts and peer institutions participating in this year’s ranking process:

  • 1. 793 expert panelists for all the regional and functional research categories
  • 2. 150 journalists and scholars with expertise spanning politics, think tanks, and civil society
  • 3. 55 current and former directors of think tank programs and networks
  • 4. 40 public and private donors
  • 5. 100s of think tanks
  • 6. 25-30 intergovernmental organizations
  • 7. 120 academic institutions

The increasingly global reach of the rankings is reflected in the following statistics regarding this year’s report:

  • 1. 6,545 think tanks from 182 countries were invited to participate in the process
  • 2. 1,500 plus individuals from 120 countries participated in the nominations and rankings process
  • 3. Think tanks were nominated, and subsequently ranked, in 30 categories
  • 4. A total of 5,329 think tanks were nominated
  • 5. A total of well over 25,000 nominations were received across the 30 categories
  • 6. 202 think tanks were nominated as the world’s top think tank
