Description:

Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER), an autonomous, policy-oriented, not-for-profit, policy think tank based in New Delhi is inviting applications for the post of Fellow / Research Associate to work with the Director and Chief Executive.

You will work directly with the head of the institute and take on significant responsibility in conducting research on macroeconomic issues, international trade, development, and other policy-relevant topics. You will also periodically collaborate with research teams on major studies that contribute meaningfully to policymaking. Experienced economists will mentor and support you to help build a rewarding and stimulating career at ICRIER.

Qualifications and other Requirements

• Have recently completed or are expected to complete your PhD within a year (or less) of joining ICRIER, in fields including macroeconomics, international economics, finance, public finance, monetary economics, econometrics or related areas.

OR

Have completed a Masters in Economics from reputed university, with 4-5 years of experience in research in fields including macroeconomics, international economics, finance, public finance, monetary economics, econometrics or related areas.

• Are able to demonstrate a sound understanding of macroeconomics (even if specialized in other areas during graduate school) and excellent quantitative skills. You must demonstrate the ability to conceptualize and execute cutting edge empirical work on a broad range of topics.

• Have knowledge of key international and national macro-economic and trade datasets.

• Possess an excellent academic record.

• Have proven analytical and IT skills, including familiarity with standard software tools such as Stata

• Have strong written and oral English skills.

Work Responsibilities

• You will organize and update databases relating to the Indian economy. These will include detailed national accounts (such as GDP by expenditure component and by sector), domestic price indices, banking system accounts, and balance of payments data.

• You will use the data at your disposal to analyse thematic developments, make macroeconomic forecasts and develop policy advice. You will be expected to develop research ideas and publish working papers / policy briefs, while also structuring conjunctural work – for example in the form of short monthly or quarterly reports.

• You will collaborate closely with the Director on his research agenda, while providing assistance in preparing background material / talking points for important engagements.

• You may be assigned additional responsibilities by the Director.

Selection process:

We will conduct an initial screening based on your application and supporting documentation. If you are successful in meeting our initial criteria, you will receive an invitation for a preliminary interview. Following that there will be a panel interview along with a written assignment. The process may take 2-3 weeks.
