ICRIER, now in its 40th year, is an autonomous, policy oriented, not-for-profit research institute that has emerged as one of India’s leading think tanks with a clear focus on supporting India’s interface with the global economy.

 

The five thrust areas of research at ICRIER are:

 
  • Growth, Employment and Macroeconomics (GEM)
  • Trade, Investment and External Relations (TIER)
  • Agriculture Policy, Sustainability and Innovation (APSI)
  • Digital Economy, Start-ups and Innovation (DESI)
  • Climate Change, Urbanization and Sustainability (CCUS)
 

ICRIER’s highly qualified core team of researchers includes several Ph.Ds from reputed Indian and foreign universities. The team is led by Dr. Deepak Mishra, Director & Chief Executive, ICRIER. ICRIER’s Board of Governors, chaired by Mr. Pramod Bhasin, reflects a rich diversity of professional background and experience. ICRIER provides a platform for aspiring economists to carve out a bright career in policy oriented research.

ICRIER’s office is located at the India Habitat Centre, one of the most beautiful institutional complexes in the country. The IHC community consists of some leading research institutes, NGOs and think tanks that contribute to a very active calendar of seminars, meetings and cultural events. The office is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to facilitate research.

Additionally, a special housing allowance can be considered for Professors. ICRIER also permits its faculty to undertake consultancy assignments for 40 days a year and a nominal amount of 5% is shared with ICRIER. Research staff is encouraged to publish under their name in academic journals and in the popular press.

Over the years, ICRIER has built up a strong network of resource persons within India and abroad, who work as short-term consultants on research projects undertaken by ICRIER. ICRIER encourages faculty members of colleges, universities and business schools to work part time with our in-house team on areas of mutual interest.

The criteria for appointing researchers at different levels are as follows:

Research Assistant: Masters degree in Economics from a reputed Indian or foreign university.

Research Associate: M. Phil. in Economics from a reputed Indian or foreign university or a Masters degree in Economics with relevant/equivalent experience.

Fellow: Ph.D in Economics from a reputed Indian or foreign university or ‘equivalent’. Scholars in the final stages of their doctoral thesis may also apply.

Senior Fellow: Ph.D in Economics from a reputed Indian or foreign university or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of teaching or research experience and a strong publications record.

Professor: Ph.D in Economics from a reputed Indian or foreign university or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years teaching or research experience and a strong publication record.
