
Objective:The objectiveof this study is to analyse the importance of ‘wine’ in the context of India-Australia trade agreement and bilateral discussions, identity the trade barriers and propose a framework for trade liberalisation, which is mutually beneficial. This study aims to provide inputs to policy makers in India and Australia for their trade negotiations.
Scope and Deliverables: A short report/working paper
Activities: The following activitiess were conducted under the project:
• Stakeholders’ consultations, meetings with policymakers, sector experts, etc.
• Draft report submission and presentation to policymakers in India and Australia
• Finalization and publication of the report titled “Liberalisation of Wine Trade under the India-Australia CECA”.
• The report was released by H. E. Mr. Manpreet Vohra, High Commissioner, High Commission of India, Canberra, Australia; H. E. Ms. Sarah Storey, Chargé d’Affaires, Australian High Commission, India and Mr. Kuntal Sensarma, Economic Advisor – Economic and Trade Division, Abattoir and NMPPB, Skill Development, FSSAI, Ministry of Food Processing Industry (MoFPI), Government of India, in a conference followed by a Panel Discussion on “Enhancing Trade and Collaborations in Wines under the India-Australia CECA” held on Thursday, June 2, 2022. The panel discussion was chaired by Mr. Anil Wadhwa, Former Ambassador & Distinguished Fellow, Vivekananda International Foundation (VIF) and the panelists were Dr. Badri Narayan Gopalakrishnan, Head – Trade and Commerce, NITI Aayog, Govt. of India; Ms. Nita Kapoor, CEO, International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI); Mr. T. S. Vishwanath, Legal Expert on Trade, Principal Adviser, APJ-SLG Law Offices; and Co-Founder, RV-VeKommunicate LLP; Mr. Con Livissianis, Chapter Chair – Agribusiness, Australia India Business Council (AIBC); Mr. Rahul Singh, Founder & CEO, Beer Café and Trustee & Past President, National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) and Mr. Tony Battaglene, Chief Executive Officer, Australian Grape & Wine.
