Providing technical support on matters pertaining to adaptation, in particular the “Global Goal on Adaptation” (GGA)

Climate adaptation plays a pivotal role in determining how climate impacts ultimately manifest and how intense their damaging effects may be. The Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) Framework was established under Article 7.1 of the Paris Agreement. It aims to enhance adaptive capacity, strengthen resilience, and reduce vulnerability to climate change to support the ongoing efforts to reduce global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

The objective of this study is to facilitate an in-depth analysis and tracking of India’s progress towards its adaptation goals within the GGA framework. This will involve empirical analysis of processes and outcome indicators across the broad dimensions of the iterative adaptation cycle, enabling adequate and effective adaptation, i.e., impact, vulnerability, and risk assessment; planning; implementation; and monitoring, evaluating, and learning, using appropriate methodologies.

ICRIER’s inputs to the requirements identified by the UAE Framework for Global Climate Resilience will serve as the basis for India’s official adaptation-relevant submissions to UNFCCC.
