Position: Fellow (Soil Scientist/Agronomist)

The Agriculture Policy, Sustainability and Innovation (APSI) vertical at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) is inviting applications from highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Research Fellow (Soil Scientist/Agronomist).The candidate is expected contribute to cutting-edge research on soil health, balanced crop nutrient management, and sustainable agricultural systems, with a strong focus on generating evidence to inform agricultural policy and practice in India. The position offers an excellent opportunity to work at the interface of scientific research, policy analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and oversee pilot research on balanced crop nutrient management and sustainable crop production systems.
- Monitor field experiments – analyse and interpret agronomic and soil data.
- Conduct analysis of credible scientific evidence and translate research findings into technical reports, policy briefs, working papers, and peer-reviewed publications.
- Collaborate with researchers, government agencies, industry partners, and other stakeholders to support project implementation and knowledge dissemination.
- Contribute to project planning, monitoring and evaluation, capacity-building activities, and stakeholder outreach.
- Support the development of policy recommendations to promote soil health, sustainable nutrient management, and climate-resilient agriculture.
Essential Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Soil Science or Agronomy, or a closely related discipline from a recognized university.
- 2–3 years of post-doctoral research or professional experience in soil science, agronomy, sustainable agriculture, or a related field.
Desired Skills
- Strong understanding of crop production systems, soil fertility, plant nutrition, nutrient management, and sustainable agricultural practices.
- Experience in designing and conducting field experiments, soil sampling, laboratory analysis, and statistical analysis of agronomic data.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare high-quality scientific publications, technical reports, and policy briefs.
- Excellent analytical, scientific writing, presentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Willingness to undertake field travel as required.
