The closed-door roundtable on “AI Economics,” co-hosted by ICRIER and OpenAI on March 18, 2025, brought together key policymakers, economists, technologists, industry associations, and not-for-profit organizations to discuss the transformative impact of AI on India’s economy.
The discussions highlighted India’s strategic position in the global AI race, emphasizing the need for investments in AI infrastructure, data governance, inclusive adoption, and building trust. Amitabh Kant opened the session by outlining India’s AI ambitions and the need for technological autonomy. Aaron “Ronnie” Chatterji examined AI’s effects on the Indian economy, while V Anantha Nageswaran provided insights into its economic impact and labor market shifts. Senior officials from various ministries also contributed to the discussions.
