Bretton Woods at 80: Priorities for the Next Decade

Date: 23rd October, 2024 |  Hybrid

The Bretton Woods Twins, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, are celebrating their 80th anniversary, reflecting on decades of contributions to global development and financial stability. However, they now face unprecedented challenges—climate change, financial instability, and increasing geopolitical fragmentation. These institutions are being asked to adapt in new and unfamiliar ways, from addressing climate-related shocks to navigating geopolitical and economic tensions while maintaining their legitimacy and effectiveness. How are they responding to these evolving demands, and are they still fit for purpose in the 21st century?

Join the Center for Global Development and ICRIER for a discussion with leading experts and former high-level policymakers on how the World Bank and IMF can address today’s global challenges and position themselves for the future.
