The Union Budget 2020-21: Reforms and Development Perspectives
  • Highlights
  • Agenda

The Union Budget 2020-21 will be presented by the Honourable Minister of Finance, Ms. Nirmala Seetharaman on Feb 1 2020. This Union Budget is particularly important since it will be presented at a time when India’s growth has slowed to a decadal low and all eyes will be on the FM when she presents her proposals. The Government has in the last few weeks shown intent by convening several diverse groups of stakeholders to gather ideas on the admittedly hard task to nurse the economy back to health. Some ideas will be reflected in the Union Budget, while some might be kept in abeyance until the time is ripe for implementation while others will simply be discarded. To critically examine what is in the Union Budget and what is not, the heads of five leading think tanks in the NCR will come together to share their reflective view and the longer-term implications for the Indian economy.

As you perhaps already know, the heads of the 5 institutes (CPR, ICRIER, IDF, NCAER, and NIPFP) first came together in March 2007 to present a reform and development perspective of the Union Budget. And as we have done for the past 13 years, the five institutions will once again gather to present a deeper assessment of the Union Budget 2020-21.
