Dr. Shabana Mitra as a Senior Fellow in the GEM Team. Dr. Mitra holds a PhD in Economics from Vanderbilt University, awarded in 2011. Her research has been published in prestigious academic journals such as The Economic Journal, Econometric Reviews, Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of Business Research, Oxford Development Studies, Economic Development and Cultural Change, Applied Economics, and Social Indicators Research.
Before joining ICRIER, Dr. Mitra has worked at Shiv Nadar University in Delhi-NCR, IIM Bangalore, the World Bank in Washington DC, and the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) in Norway. She has provided consultancy services to organizations such as UNICEF, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) at the University of Oxford. Additionally, she has been a visiting scholar at the University of Oslo in Norway.
Dr. Mitra has been recognized with awards such as the Noel Dissertation Fellowship for 2010-2011 and the Rendigs Fels Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2008, both from Vanderbilt University. In her leisure time, she enjoys painting and bike riding, often with her son. She also has a passion for exploring new cuisines and restaurants and is not hesitant to experiment with cooking exotic dishes herself.
