Aligning Fiscal Measures With Nutrition Security in India for Sugar Sweetened Beverages (SSBs)

Taking forward the recommendations of an earlier WHO funded study to ICRIER titled “The Growth of Ultra-Processed Foods in India: An Analysis of Trends, Issues and Policy Recommendations”, released on August 22, 2023, New Delhi, the objective of this study is to create a working paper/policy brief to facilitate stakeholders consultations on how fiscal measures (taxes, subsidies and other fiscal incentives) can be designed in India to help in limiting the intake of sugars in beverages and support production and consumption of healthier beverages/reformulated products by making them affordable, with the overall objective of taking India towards nutrition security.
