
Objective: This study seeks to identify challenges facing the digitisation of rural India. Alongside challenges in access to internet and broadband infrastructure, the study will also evaluate digital literacy and uptake of digital application in rural areas.
Scope and Deliverables: The study provides a quantitative analysis of digital inclusion parameters, contextualized to the rural setting across states in India. This analysis is complemented by detailed case studies that deep dive into state implementation of central government schemes such as Bharat Net, PMGDISHA and Common Service Centres, along with a discussion on state-led programs. The study provides a cogent set of recommendations on the way forward.
Events: The report was launched by Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on November 27th, 2021, during a High-Level Round Table with the Minister at the Valedictory Session of the IIGF 2021. Also present during the occasion were Mr. Maarten Botterman, ICANN Board Chairman; Shri Ajay Sawhney, Secretary, MeitY; Shri Anil Jain, CEO, NIXI; Shri BK Syngal; Ms. Anriette Esterhuysen, Chair, MAG IGF and Ms. Navika Kumar Group Editor, Times Network & Editor-in-Chief, Times Network Navbharat. Dr. Rajat Kathuria made a brief presentation on the findings of the report.
