In continuation with the previous study titled “Contribution of Non-Alcoholic Beverage Sector to Indian Economic Growth and Atmanirbhar Bharat”, the objective of this project is to do evidence-based research for designing fiscal policy (such as taxes and incentives/subsidies) to support investment and incentivization of product reformulation to reduce sugars in beverages, with a focus on carbonated  beverages, in India. The broad aim is to recommend fiscal policies that help in limiting the intake of ‘sugars’ and support production of beverages with lesser/reduced/no sugar and help in product diversification, enhance competitiveness of the agri-food industry, with a particularly focus on the small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups, thereby contributing to the overall growth of the sector.
