Sir Ratan Tata Trust had a three-year long research programme in ICRIER, which included consultation, workshops, research and report writing. Under that this study discussed India’s trade and investment prospects in the transport sector. It highlighted the recent trends and development in different sub-sectors of transport (road transport, rail transport, air transport and maritime transport), both globally and within India. It also analysed the linkages of transport with rest of the economy, areas of weaknesses and reform requirements. It examined unilateral/multilateral/bilateral liberalisation in this sector and how India is likely to address this sector in the ongoing WTO negotiations and in its bilateral/regional agreements.
