Simulating Emissions Trading: a Unified Framework (SETU)

India notified the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS) 2023 to establish the legal framework for a national carbon market, supporting the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy. The proposed study aims to: (i) assess the economy-wide impacts of the CCTS on economic growth, sectoral output, employment, trade, competitiveness, welfare, and price transmission; (ii) compare the baseline scenario with representative CCTS scenarios under alternative carbon price bands; (iii) interface with the existing EDF–IIT Roorkee Partial Equilibrium model by generating sector-specific estimates of output responses, price pass-through, electricity mix transitions, energy demand, and input substitution; and (iv) develop an integrated analytical framework that soft-links the Partial Equilibrium and Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) models to support evidence-based policymaking for India’s evolving carbon market.
