Understanding the Impact of the EU Sustainability Standards on Indian Agri-Product Exports

India is a large exporter of agriculture products and the EU is one of our key markets. On June 13, 2024, the European Commission came up with the Directive (2024/1760) on corporate sustainability due diligence. The Directive requires companies to take appropriate steps to set up and carry out due diligence measures, with respect to their operations, those of their subsidiaries, as well as those of their direct and indirect business partners throughout their chains of activities.

In this context, the objective of the study is to help strengthen the Indian export value chains and make recommendations to the Indian government on how India can secure its export position and become a larger player in the EU company’s value chain. The project will cover three key Agri-exports from India to the EU, namely (a) cereals (basmati and non-basmati rice), (b) beverages (tea and coffee) and (c) non-food cash crops (tobacco/tobacco products).
