FCDO (UK) was working closely with FSSAI on an UK-India capacity building initiative for improving ease of doing business. The FSSAI was trying to leverage information technology (IT) to enhance consistency, transparency and predictability of the business environment and reduce compliance burden. In that context, the purpose of this project was to support FSSAI in streamlining the process of food imports and in reducing compliance burden for the domestic companies to facilitate trade and ease of doing business. Out of the four studies, two studies covered issues faced by Indian micro, small and medium enterprises in food business, which results in delays and higher compliance costs. An IT led process and IT manual has been designed for FSSAI to improve ease of doing business in the food sector.
