Cultural norms that relegate women's roles to domestic and caregiving duties, and social barriers like gender discrimination and lack of support for women’s careers, perpetuate gender income inequality and restrict women's economic empowerment. Increasing women’s labour force participation, therefore, requires policy tools to address long-standing patriarchal norms that hinder women’s economic empowerment, especially those related to care work and domestic responsibilities
