Climate Change Urbanization and Sustainability (CCUS)

The Climate Change, Urbanization and Sustainability (CCUS) vertical at ICRIER undertakes policy-oriented evidence-based research on climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy transition, resource efficiency, and environmental sustainability. Its research spans four broad areas: (1) economic modelling for energy transition and carbon pricing; (2) techno-economic assessment of clean energy solutions; (3) adaptation and resilience planning; and (4) waste management and critical raw material recovery. Drawing on a multidisciplinary team of economists, engineers, and environmental scientists, supported by proprietary modelling frameworks, the team provides evidence-based policy support to government and multilateral institutions. Recent engagements include contributions to three of NITI Aayog’s six Inter-Ministerial Working Groups on net-zero transitions, climate finance, and critical minerals, and the MoEF&CC’s Adaptation Resourcing Working Group under the National Adaptation Plan (NAP). The team has also supported the Indian Government in international climate negotiations, including the G20 Energy Sustainability Working Group (ESWG), the Clean Energy Ministerial, and the preparation of India’s Third National Communication and Initial Adaptation Communication to the UNFCCC.
