Dr. Deepak Mishra is currently with the World Bank as Adviser to the World Development Report 2026 on AI for Development. He previously held the position of Director and Chief Executive of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER). Over more than two decades at the World Bank, he worked across more than fifteen countries, living and working in Africa, South Asia, and East Asia, and co-directed the World Development Report 2016: Digital Dividends. His work lies at the intersection of technology and development, with a particular focus on digital transformation, jobs, and economic growth.

An active voice in India’s policy discourse, he has served on several high-level committees and advisory bodies, including those of the Ministry of Finance, NITI Aayog, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Statistics, and the G20 Independent Expert Group established during India’s G20 Presidency. He has also worked closely with several state governments on policy design and economic reforms. His academic research has appeared in leading journals, and he writes regularly for Business Standard and The Economic Times. Deepak holds an M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland.
