Dr. Shekhar Aiyar is the Director and Chief Executive of the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER). Prior to joining ICRIER, Dr. Aiyar was Assistant Director in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he coordinated the work programme on trade and industrial policy. Previously he served as the IMF’s Mission Chief for Germany and Head of the Eurozone Division. He has been a Visiting Scholar at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), a Fellow of Bruegel, a Visiting Professor at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) and an Advisor to the Bank of England.
Dr. Aiyar holds a B.A. in Economics from Delhi University, an M.A. in Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University and a Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University. He has published widely in leading academic journals, including the Journal of Financial Economics, American Economic Review, European Economic Review, IMF Economic Review, Journal of Economic Growth and Journal of Money, Credit and Banking. His opinions have appeared in The New York Times and the Financial Times.
